In a significant step toward regional unity and growth, the Latin American Area Committee of Skål International was officially established in April 2025 during the Latin American Congress held in Montevideo, Uruguay.

This milestone was the result of an agreement reached the previous year at the Santa Fe Latin American Congress, where Chary González (Skål International Cochabamba), President of the Southern Area Committee, and Nicola Furnari (Skål International Caracas), President of the Northern Area Committee, decided to join forces to create a stronger, more representative committee for the entire region.

The General Assembly—which included members of the Skål International Executive Board such as President Denise Scrafton, Vice President Andres Hayes, and Director Media, PR, Branding & Marketing Georges Koch—alongside various representatives from Latin American countries, approved the dissolution of the Southern and Northern Area Committees to pave the way for this unified body. This decision underscores the commitment of Skål International members in Latin America to collaborate in promoting the organization’s growth and development across the region.

Leadership and Executive Board

During the same Assembly, the Executive Board of the newly formed Latin American Area Committee was elected. Skålleague Mario Costa from Skål International Punta del Este was appointed as President, joined by Demetrio Maduro from Skål International Panama as Vice President and Jean Gillespie from Skål International Lima as Second Vice President. The board is composed of experienced and passionate leaders dedicated to the success of the region.

Continuity and guidance

It was also agreed that the outgoing presidents of the former Southern and Northern Area Committees, Chary González and Nicola Furnari, respectively, would join the new Executive Board as advisors. Their expertise and institutional knowledge will help ensure a smooth and effective transition.
