What can we change to lead a more sustainable lifestyle?
Our world is challenged by increasing environmental, economic, social threads...
But what can we change to lead a more sustainable lifestyle? Let us take you on the Biosphere journey.
Beginning in 1968, the importance for sustainable development started being increasingly addressed in various conferences and summits throughout the years.
Ultimately, in 2015, the United Nations General Assembly approved the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and with it, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - a set of 17 universal objectives, 196 targets and additional indicators which address all crucial issues that our world today is facing. The adaptation to tourism is made in the year 2019 by 'The Guide for Sustainable Tourism' published by the Responsible Tourism Industry (RTI) and REDS, the Spanish antenna of the SDSN.
As tourism is one of the most influential industries regarding the sustainable development of our planet, it is key to transform its model to contribute positively towards the goals of the 2030 Agenda
Biosphere©, an RTI initiative, is a comprehensive system of continuous improvement and positioning of a destination, company or product, by providing support and training towards the '2030 Horizon' according to the UNs sustainability criteria and the involvement and assessment by companies, employees and citizens.
At Biosphere, we translate the 17 SDGs into tangible actions and activities that each company or destination can carry out to improve their sustainability and thus ultimately contribute to a more sustainable development of our world. The Biosphere lifestyle seeks to create an interactive environment of good practices, where companies and destinations can actively involve their employees, through the delegation of tasks, whilst evidencing their different activities to ensure compliance with the SDGs.
We proudly feature more than 30 certified destinations, another 20 in their process, and more than 400 entities who carry the Biosphere seal of continuous improvement towards sustainability.
Only through continuous improvement, we can make tourism and our planet more sustainable, by following along this comprehensive vision of participation and added value of all actors involved.
